Shavon Slack, CNA, MA

Birth Assistant and Student Midwife

Shavon is a doula and a new birth assistant, whose passion for supporting families is deeply personal. As a mother of five, with four of her children delivered by Columbia Birth Center’s Founder and Midwife Cynthia Flynn, Shavon brings firsthand experience and empathy to her role. Her servant’s heart is evident in her more than 20 years of caring for the elderly in skilled nursing facilities, followed by her service in a hospital setting. Inspired by the transformative care she received from Midwife Cynthia, Shavon felt called to help others experience extraordinary pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum journeys.

Transitioning from her personal experience, three years ago, Shavon became a doula. She is now taking her commitment to the next level by starting midwifery school in January 2026. She passionately believes that birth is a natural and empowering event—not a medical emergency—and she advocates for women’s autonomy throughout the process. Having had four successful VBACs herself, Shavon is a powerful champion for mothers seeking a positive and empowering birth experience.

Shavon was born and raised here in the Tri-Cities. She has five grandchildren who are the world to her, and she loves spending time with them. She also has a passion for traveling and the outdoors. She loves hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing, kayaking, and just being out in the fresh air. Shavon also enjoys cooking and feeding people; her love language is acts of service.

Shavon is excited to be a birth assistant here at Columbia Birth Center and plans to pursue her midwifery career here once she graduates from school. She will be a wonderful addition to the CBC team when she completes her education and licensing as a midwife.
