Emily is a second-year direct-entry midwifery student at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College.

She was first introduced to midwifery after becoming a certified doula and beginning to attend births. She quickly discovered that while she loved supporting families through pregnancy and birth, she also had a strong desire to be part of the clinical care of birthing people too. That realization ultimately led her to pursue midwifery!

Emily has spent much of her career becoming an expert in the household staffing space. Some of her proudest accomplishments include becoming a Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant, Newborn Care Specialist, & Lamaze-trained Childbirth Educator. She currently works as a rotational nanny for private families, specializing in infant care. Her years of working closely with families during pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and the newborn period have shaped her belief that families deserve to feel informed, respected, and actively involved in their care.

Outside of midwifery, Emily is the founder of Izel’s Closet, which has served more than 15 Washington-based families by helping provide diapers, clothing, and other newborn essentials during challenging life circumstances. Caring for families has remained a common thread throughout both her professional and personal life.

Emily is passionate about physiologic birth, informed consent, bodily autonomy, and providing individualized care that allows families to feel heard and supported throughout their pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenting experience.  Emily is looking forward to graduation and once becoming a CPM/LM has dreams of also being involved in advocacy and midwifery scope expansion change in Washington. 

When she isn’t at the birth center, studying, or caring for little ones, Emily loves traveling, working out, and cooking!  She is grateful to be learning from the wonderful team at  Columbia Birth Center & looks forward to being a part of your care team!
